Could you give us directions to your place from Monteverde?
Come south along the costanera highway to Palmar Norte. You will go through Jaco, Quepos and Dominical before reaching Palmar Norte. Turn right at highway which is the Panamerican. About 35 kms or so you will come to Gas Station Corcovado in a small town called Chacarita. Turn right onto the Peninsula de Osa. Follow the road to La Palma, turn left and follow the road to Pto. Jimenez. When entering the town drive across the main road where all the signs are and follow the road in front of the ocean. This will eventually bring you to airport; keep following the road along the side of the airport until you see a large bamboo fence. This is La Choza del Manglar. Voila, you are here.

Could you give us directions to your place from San Jose?

From San Jose there are two possibilities.
A. Leave Central Valley through Cartago and travel over the mountains to San Isidro. (approx 3 hours) Continue southbound on Pan American highway until you come to Palmar Norte. Approx 2 hours. Cross the large bridge and travel approx ½ hour. Continue southbound and you will come to a small town called Chacarita. Here you will find the Gas Station Corcovado. Turn right onto main road of Peninsula de Osa. Continue on this road until Rincon. Drive through Rincon and at the intersection of Drake Bay and the southern road, turn left and cross the large bridge. Follow road to main intersection in La Palma. Turn left and follow for another 3 kms, road will veer to right. Follow this road until Pto. Jimenez. When you arrive at main entrance of Pto Jimenez drive straight through and follow the coast road all the way to the airport. Continue on this road until you see the large bamboo fence. Turn left into La Choza del Manglar. You have arrived.

B. Leave Central Valley through highway to Alajuela as if you would return to airport. Continue until you see the cut off for Atenas approximately one hour from center of San Jose or 20 minutes from airport. Exit main highway and turn left onto secondary route. Follow this road to Atenas up into the hills and then down the hills. Arrive in San Mateo and at the park, turn left and follow road to Orotina 3 kms distant. Continue through Orotina and take exit for Jaco. Follow the road until you see the beach. You are now on the Costanera Highway. This road will take you south all the way along the coast and through Quepos, Dominical, Uvita and finally end up in Palmar Norte. At the Pan American highway turn right and cross the big bridge and travel approx ½ hour southbound where you will come to a small town called Chacarita.

Could you give us directions to your place from Arenal?
We are located approximately 400 kilometers from Arenal in the extreme southern point in the country on the Peninsula de OSA. The best way to get here is fly in 1 hour from San Jose. Alternatively you can come by bus or in a car which will take you the whole day from Arenal to here in about 12 hours. You could break up your drive with a stop over in Jaco on the beach on the way down if you wish.

Do you advise renting a car to get around?
It depends on what you want to do. There is a very reliable and cheap ($6 each way) "collectivo" all the way to Carate at the end of the road before Corcovado. There are stops all the way to the end of the road in Carbonera, Matapalo, etc. These are "safari style" trucks, with a top but otherwise open for breezes & seeing sights. They are a lot of fun and truly part of the experience here. But if you want to drive & sight- see and stop when you want it is advisable to rent a car. We can help you with that.

Is it an easy drive to Corcovado and can we do it in one day.
You can drive fairly easily in the dry season to the end of the road in Carate. There are no roads to Corcovado- you will have to hike in from Carate. From "La Choza" it is about a 2 hr drive each way. It can be done in one day. It is always advised to take a guide - you will see a lot more & they are very familiar with the land here.

Besides going to Corcovado are there other nature oriented activities we can do as a family?

Can we snorkel in the area?
